Queen of the Oddballs and Other True Stories from a Life Unaccording to Plan by Hillary Carlip

I read a review of this book on a blog (can't recall where exactly) and recognized the author's name from her earlier books Girl Power and Zine Scene: The DIY Guide to Zines (cowritten with literary rock star Francesca Lia Block) . I thought it'd be neat to see what else she'd written but I had absolutely no idea (A) how engrossing it would be and (B) how very many times her life has touched fame and the lives of a wide variety of celebrities.

I didn't want to put this book down and I highly recommend it. Carlip is a superb writer, identifies cultural and personal connections to beat the band, and makes you wish you could be in her group of friends.
